Raja Singh

Raja Singh is one of the pioneers of Electronic Industry and a Philanthropist dedicated to the cause of education. He was born on 19th February 1936 at Meerpur, J&K State (Now in Pakistan). He worked hard in his early life and then laid the foundation of a company which started manufacturing Transistor Radio sets in 1956. S. Raja Singh along with other directors of the company, namely S. Kawaljeet Singh, S. Inderjeet Singh and S. Sukhvinder Singh provided such a great leadership that the company went on progressing. When there were only a few manufacturers of Television sets, this group manufactured TEXLA T.Vs, which brand became the most popular during that period. Gradually, this group known as the TEXLA Group manufactured various other products and carved a niche for itself among the top entrepreneur of India. The business expansion was not only in respect of manufacturing electronics, but covered hotels, club Nirvana, Dark Eye and now Oberoi Castle Group has its Flagship brands in the hospitality, road safety equipment, education, devotional music and automobile industry. S. Raja Singh has a philosophy of life corresponding to Gurmat way of living which looks for highest standards of excellence in all spheres of activities. S. Raja Singh’s contribution for promotion and propagation of Sikh religion can be gauged from the fact that he started the first sponsored programme on T.V. and that was SARAB SANJHI GURBANI which always started with the Gurbani Hymn, “Koi Bole Ram Ram, Koi Khudaye” implying therein the Gurmat principle of oneness of God and universal brotherhood. He not only popularized Kirtan on media, but also established a number of Educational Institutions at Dehradun and Ludhiana wherein the children are taught Gurmat way of living. These institutions include GRD Academy at Ludhiana, GRD Academy at Dehradun, GRD World School at Dehradun and a Girls Degree College at Dehradun. A number of spiritual Camps are also organized at Academy premises by various organizations from India and U.S.A. S. Raja Singh and his sons, who are associates in all these activities definitely constitute a role model group of persons.
