Harpreet Singh

Harpreet Singh, a TV/Radio broadcast journalist, a social activist and a politician belonging to the conservative party of Canada, was born in Amritsar. He started his career as a journalist by working for Hindustan Times and Indian Express newspapers. He also worked for some TV channels particularly, ZEE news of which he was the bureau chief at Chandigarh. He was also a stringer for Reuters, BBC, Voice of America and Time magazine. After coming to Canada, he settled in Surrey in 2002. He started a small business of his own, but simultaneously continued to work with some of the top print and electronic media outlets in India and Canada. In the meantime, this program of his name became popular. In this program he focuses on the positive contribution of South Asians to Canadian society. Discussions include religious,political, social, health and economic issues as well as cultural diversity.
He is also associated with some other programs and is well known as a writer, producer and a political commentator in the media world. Being a Sikh and a Punjabi, he is also known for his social and charitable activities for the community. He is a firm believer in giving back to the community and is therefore involved with a number of social and charitable organizations here. In a short span of time, he has become a spokesman of community issues and can be seen discussing community issues in the mainstream media also. All these activities made him a role model for the Indian people particularly for the people of his community. That is why conservative party of Canada nominated him as his candidate for Surrey Newton Riding. Although, he lost the election, but, the story of his journey from an immigrant to a television and radio host, political commentator, writer, producer and a businessman, then as a nominee of a prominent political party of a country other than India is highly inspiring. and makes him a true role model.
