Devendra Pal Singh

Although, there is no dearth of Punjabi/Sikh Singers but there are very few who have a deep devotion for the religion and make their name remaining in Sikhi Saroup. When, an artist of this type appeared in Indian Idol show 2012, he became popular as Punjabi Munda, who according to Lata Didi, sang “terrific” with his introvertness and calm nature. This young singer was born on 24th August 1994 at Patna and had an ambition from childhood to become a playback singer like Sonu Nigam. He was first of all inspired by his Nana Ji, who was a great Tabla Ustad named Ustad Mahinder Singh Ji from Patna Sahib. However, at very young age he went to Ludhiana and studied there at Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana. He started learning classical music from Principal Sukhwant Singh at Ludhiana and till now Principal Sahib continues to be his Guru. After his power packed performances in Indian Idol Season 6, he got a great command over the rhythm and melody. He got chances to sing in Bollywood movies like ‘Love Shuv Te Chicken Khurana’ and also sang a very popular song ‘Nirmohia’ with Harshdeep Kaur and Amit Trivedi, the Music Director. He also sang songs in Punjabi movies like “47 to 84, “The Blood Street”, “Mitti Na Pharol Jogiya”. He also sang Singh tracks for Baru Sahib University. He has been invited several times by various Sikh organizations in USA/Canada for singing in the programme on crucial Sikh events. He has become a craze for the people and as such has become a role model singer in Sikhi sarup. He will definitely achieve bigger successes in future and raise the heads of the Sikhs.
