Manjit Singh SALDEF: It has been explained at various places in this Directory that SALDEF is a U.S. organization which is aimed at empowering Sikh Americans by building dialogue deepening understanding promoting civics and political participation and upholding social justice and religious freedom for all. This organization was founded in 1996. S. Manjit Singh was the co-founder and continues to be the Chairman of the SALDEF Board. He has an M.S. in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Albany. Before that he had done B.E. in Computer Engineering from Bombay University in India. After shifting to USA, he became active in Washington D.C. Metro area Sikh American community. He became a member of the Board of Directors of Guru Gobind Singh Foundation in Rock Ville, MD and also a member – at large on the Board of Inter Face Conference (IFC) of Metro Politon Washington. When SALDEF came into being, he the key person built started building strong relationship with the Government and media which enabled him to pioneer major educational, media and policy initiatives.
After 9/11 he made efforts to educate and inform law enforcement on Sikh Americans by making training videos and also through print Kal Singh Mukhbir Singh Manjit Singh 500 Sikh 127 Role Models and electronic broadcasting media including CNN, Fox News, Voice of America, BBC, Al Jazeera, NPR, Washington Post, Washington Times, New York Times, among others. It is because of his active association with the community activities that he became a role-model. When on 13.5.2016 former President Barak Obama appointed him to serve on the President’s Advisory Council his interest in the said activities became all the more known. He is currently President Agilious LLC, but his known more for his social and religious activities.
