Gurmeet Singh

Gurmeet Singh, a devout Sikh living in Patna, recently figured in news because of his selfless service. He was born on 4th January 1962 in Patna in the house of S. Mahindra Singh and Sdn. Gurjeet Kaur. As he could not carry on his education he joined the family business of readymade garments. Believing in the Sikh principles of simran and sewa, he made bhai Ghanayia Ji as his role-model and started using 10% of his income as Daswandh for charitable purposes. Once, when he was approached by a lady to help her to save her burnt child, he guided her to visit the govt. hospital, but, when the lady informed that nobody bothered about the poor people in the hospital, Gurmeet Singh went with her to the hospital and himself witnessed the deplorable condition in which such patients were placed.
They waited for their turn for hours even without food as there was no facility available even to provide food and water to the poor and needy people. Gurmeet Singh decided on that day that he will spend his Daswandh time and money on such patients. Since that day, he has made it a routine to visit Patna Medical Hospital and provide all kinds of help to these patients staying with them for sometime before opening his shop. When the news of his selfless service to the people spread, media started interviewing him in this regard. A number of newspapers and a few channels have already dealt with this news item. One of the news channels has made a documentary on him. Gurmeet Singh believed in silent service, a good number of persons who have benefited blessed him and told about him to many people. This news as inspired the people not only in India, but in foreign countries also. That is why a social organization based in London, ‘The Sikh Directory’ has selected him for an honour in a function for ‘World Sikh’ award held in London on 19th November 2016. Gurmeet Singh, being a believer in God, is greatful to the Almighty for giving him ability and wisdom to do something for the patients. It is his desire that a charitable hospital in the real sense be setup so that each and every poor and needy person gets nutritious diet, necessary medicines and requisite attention. He says that if he will be able to do it, his heart’s desire will be fulfilled. His four sons and one brother fully support him in his mission and are hopeful that God willing, they will be able to fulfill his desire one day.
