Current President Sardar Tara Singh

All the historical Gurdwaras in Pakistan are looked after by Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. This body was constituted by the Government of Pakistan, but, unlike SGPC, it is not independent and is controlled by Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) of Pakistan. The Pakistan SGPC has its head office at Lahore in the province of Punjab (Pakistan) and it entrusted with the maintenance of all Sikh religion’s institutions including Gurdwaras and the well being of the Pakistani Sikh community. This organisation was earlier opposed by SGPC, which regarded itself as the sole guardian of Sikh institutions and religion worldwide. However, as the Pakistan SGPC has done a lot of work in renovating the Sikh shrines, making improvements in Management and the facilities to be provided to the devotees who visit Pakistan, It has proved its significance. The Pakistan SGPC has also enhanced the standard of celebrations of various Gurpurab by inviting the renowned Sikh scholars, Gurbani singers and Kathavachaks. When the Pakistan SGPC had come into existence, S. Sham Singh became its President in 1999. The first President was, in fact the prime mover in setting up of this organisation. Earlier, SGPC was responsible for the maintenance, but they were not able to keep the Gurdwaras in proper condition, whereas they were collecting all the offerings of the Gurdwaras. Sham Singh worked hard to take over this control from them and did excellent work for the development and management of Sikh shrines, especially at Nanakana Sahib and Dehra Sahib in Lahore. He was also a votary of Hindu Sikh Unity and always encouraged both Hindus and Sikhs living in various countries to visit Pakistan. Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, Gurdwara Bebe Nanaki, Gurdwara Janam Asthan Guru Ram Dass and others were declared open for pilgrims, unlike earlier times when Pakistan allowed devotees to visit only a couple of gurdwaras in the country. He remained president of PSGPC till his Death on March 27th 2017 (except for some years when Sardar S. Mastan Singh Remained President). Presently, the president of the said organization is S. Tara Singh (Mob. 00923337246328).
