One of these professions is that of a Chef. A large number of persons are joining hotel management courses not merely for becoming manager, but also successful Chefs. A number of T.V. channels now present programmes relating to cooking competitions and success stories of prominent Chefs in India and abroad. One of the Chefs in the Sikhi sarup, who prominently appears on the T.V. Channels is S. Harpal Singh Sokhi. He was born in Khadagpur in West Bengal in the house of S. Darshan Singh and Sdn. Manjeet Kaur. He did his schooling in Khadagpur and then on the suggestion of his elder brother he went for hotel Management course at Bhubaneswar. His interest in cooking from early age made him decide that he will become a successful Chef one day and now he is one of the most prominent chefs in India. His prominence rests upon his unique style of cookery with humour. Today his show ‘Turban Tadka’ is not only the highest rated culinary show in the history of television but he is also the only Chef who has bought smiles to a billion hearts across the nation and the world by singing Namak Shamak. Today his style is mimicked by the country for his famous quote “namak shamak, namak shamak, daal dete hai” as a host of the most popular culinary show ‘Turban Tadka’ on Foodfood Channel on Indian television, he’s already bagged the title of “Energy Chef of India” and made people all charged-up and passionate about cooking. He has touched the hearts of millions of people with his other culinary show called ‘Desh Da Swaad’ on Zee News and ‘Punjab De Super Chef’ on PTC Punjabi Television Network. Looking into his success in hospitality industry, he plans to have his own brand franchise restaurants, three of which called Twist of Tadka’, BB Jaan and The Treasury have already started running successfully in Bangalore, Jalandhar and Amritsar respectively. He is really a role-model in this new line of expertise. However, apart from this expertise, this role-model has interest in music and dance. When he appeared on Colors channel’s show ‘Jhalak Dikhla Ja’ season 9, he impressed people with his dancing skill. He is also a writer and has written food columns for various newspapers and magazines. His unending thrust for knowledge has lead him to learn and promote foods of various places. Whereas, he had spent his initial years in learning different international cuisines, he Mastered the art of making Hyderabadi dishes from Ustad Habib Pasha and Beghum Mumtaz Khan, an authority in Hyderabadi cuisine. Similarly, whereas he had made extensive research as how cooking improves nutritive value of food and the rejuvenating power of spices on the body, soul and mind, he took his quest ahead to create a link between Ayurveda and food. Chef Harpal strongly believes that today people are very health conscious and India cannot have a better blend of food and health if the Ayurveda beliefs are missing. Today Chef Harpal in consultation with his Ayurvedic doctor friend Onkar Bilgi is on a research trial for finding out answers on various hidden aspects of Indian food. He has also developed the concept of western influence on Indian food, and used it in “Passage to India”, a specialty restaurant, a runaway success in Mumbai. Having a social aptitude, he tries to provide work for girls in his business. Presently, he manages own digital channel called Singh and Cook and is among the top 5 food youtubers honoured by Google in the year 2014. He has also been honoured by various other organizations including the Victorian multicultural community with IndiaAustralia friendship award in Melbourne in 2014. He runs his own firm Turban Takda hospitality and is also into consulting, books and food business.
