Sonny Caberwal is one of the world’s first Sikh fashion models born in America. He had his graduation
at the University of Oxford and completed his graduation in International Business and Gloablization from
Duke University (1997-2001). As a part of this curriculum he studied how various global music trends helped
to create diverse social environments, and received a grant for over $5k to travel Europe and do field research.
Upon returning, he applied these findings to events aimed at creating more diverse social environments on
Duke’s campus through students to Unite Duke, raising over $30k to create successful social programs, with
some events drawing as high as 25% of the school’s registered undergraduate population of over 6k. He
further studied at George Town University Law Center the impact of the digital music and the internet music
industry. As a corporate lawyer, he worked for one and half year (2004-2006) with Chardbourne and Parke
in NYC, where he helped research, draft and review a variety of documents related to financing, amending
corporate structuring and project related to setting up and development of small business. He co-founded
Sher Singh, one of the first online lifestyle brands from India and became one of the largest online retailers of
Indian fashion. Following this, he co-founded the world’s Indian fashion website, exclusively.com. Backed
by Accel Partners and Tiger Global Management, the company was acquired in 2012, and became part
of India’s largest e-commerce company. With his experience in entrepreneurship and technology he then
founded a company Bond, dedicated to helping people be more thoughtful. He became the founder and
CEO of this company. Bond’s technology lets user send handwritten notes from any device in seconds. The company was acquired in March 2016 by Newell Brands, a global consumer products company. Sonny now
drives technology initiatives (including Bond) across Newell Brands. As a Sikh fashion model he has been
in global campaign for brands from Kenneth Cole to Dior and Armani. He is also an avid percussionist
who have performed and recorded with world famous DJ Thievery Corporation. Thus, his multifarious
achievements as a corporate lawyer, an entrepreneur, a fashion model, a music lover and ultimately now as
a visiting lecturer at Munich Business School, have made him a popular role-model, particularly among the
Sikh youth as whatever he has done, he has presented himself proudly in Sikh identity.
