After the death of Jagjit Singh from Amritsar, if we have to look for some excellent Ghazal singers, Jasvinder Singh in Sikhi saroop appears among the top singers of this genre. He was born in Mumbai in the house of S. Kuldeep Singh (Composer & Music Director). As he was brought up in Music environment, he developed an interest in Music and he started his training. The masters Jagjit Singh, Dr. Sushila Pohankar and Pt. Ajay Pohankar gave him training in classical singing. In the recent years, he has emerged as a popular singer of Ghazals who has rendered Ghazals of great poets like Mirza Ghalib, Daag, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Jigar and Kaifi Aazmi. He was chosen to sing for the play “Kaifi Aur Main”, a epistolary style play dealing with the life and times of the noted lyricist and poet Kaifi Azmi. The play features the husband and wife due of Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi. The lead actors share interesting anecdotes from the life of the great revolutionary poet Kaifi Sahib, which Jaswinder lends his voice to some of the most memorable ghazals and songs penned by Kaifi Sahib. He performed at Ghalibnaama, a conceptual show based on the prose and poetry of Mirza Ghalib. In July 2012, Jaswinder performed a song “Bahut Yaad Aate Ho Tum” in an episode of Amir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate. He has toured US, Canada, UK, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Muscat. He has performed over 500 live concerts. His wonderful voice and popularity has made the Sikhs proud. No doubt, this role model singer was awarded ‘The Young Ghazal Maestro’ by Indian Music Academy. The title was presented by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia in the presence of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
