S.P.S. Oberoi, a successful Business Entrepreneur and a great Philanthropist was born on 13.04.1956 at Talwara Township, India. He had his early education at Talwara and then at Ropar University. In 1975, he
started his career as an Engine Mechanic in Pandhoh Dam, Himachal Pradesh. He went to Dubai in 1977
and stayed there for four years doing the work as a Mechanic. On return to India, he started Material supply
and Construction Company under the name, “Pritam Singh & Sons”. Under this company, he successfully
accomplished many projects like roads, canals, bridges, sewages, hot mix plants & Railway line from Beas
to Goindwal Sahib. He shifted to Dubai in 1993 and started his own General Trading Company Apex.
Emirates General Trading L.L.C. in 1006 Apex International Construction, In 1998 Dubai Grand Hotel & in 2004 Oberoi Properties & Investments L.L.C.
The Apex Group of Companies became prosperous and so
well known that made S. Oberoi a Role model business tycoon being the Chairman of this group. However,
what made S. Oberoi a World renowned Philanthropist were his various altruistic acts. He put his own
money to pay approx. 1.8 million US Dollars to secure the release of 58 Indians from the Death sentence and
the life time imprisonment. Mr. Oberoi paid the Air tickets of more than 800 prisoners (who completed
their punishment but due t lack to funds couldn’t go back to their country) & sent them back with the help
of Indian Consulate. When in 2013, he paid blood money for saving the lives of 17 Indian youths who
were sentenced to death by a Sharjah Civil Court for murdering a Pakistan based man some years ago, he
came to be referred to as the “DIVINE EMISSARY”. For doing all such acts of humanitarian and charitable
nature, he has set up a Trust known as SARBAT DA BHALA TRUST which has its offices in all the districts
of Punjab, in many places of Haryana and J&K and also at Delhi. This trust has set up its offices in many
countries of Europe, U.S.A and Canada also. Through this trust, he had helped many a students in their
studies by paying their fees, giving them scholarships and arranging other expenses. He had given grants
to many schools also for improving their standard, environment and salaries of Teachers and staff. He has
also helped many poor people and widows by starting their regular pensions. Every day S. Oberoi comes
out with new ideas to serve the humanity on the whole. Considering his unparalleled services in Dubai and
altruistic acts which he is doing everyday in Punjab, he has been honoured by various organizations in India
and abroad. These include ‘Sikh of the Year’ award at House of Lords on April 9, 2014 and ‘Vatno Door’
appreciation award for his positive contribution for the society, a life time achievement award, Fifth Rajiv
Gandhi excellence Award and also an honour by Punjab Vidhan Sabha on 30 October 2013. He was recently
honoured by Chief Khalsa Diwan Charitable Society also. With all his distinguished acts, achievements and
honour, he emerges as one of the greatest role models of the world.
