Description

Gurcharan Jit Singh Lamba was born on 4th May 1949 at Bombay. His father was in the army. However he acquired qualification in Law. After acquiring legal qualification, he started his career as an Advocate at Jalandhar. He was mainly dealing with Income Tax cases and soon became popular in his profession. His popularity also rested upon his social and religious activities. When he was entrusted with the job of Editorship of “Sant Sipahi” a Punjabi Magazine which was started in 1945 by Master Tara Singh, his quality of Journalism became crystallized. As a Sikh scholar and writer, he performed this duty with an excellent command over language and skill in dealing with prominent Sikh issues. In the middle of the first decade of this century, when he shifted to U.S.A., he devoted himself to his journalistic activities and started expressing his views on Panthak issues including those relating to the Sikhs living in U.S.A. and other parts of North American Continent. His talks on Radio and T.V. made him so popular that he became a famous Media person reporting on Sikh issues and also taking interviews individually and collectively of intellectual persons on the Panthic subjects. He did not act as an anchor only, but also participated in discussions and personal interviews. Sometimes it seemed that he was associated with some specific groups and took their side. Such an impression led to some controversies also, but, being an excellent orator, writer, a media person and having a genuine intention of propagating Sikh religion in right earnest, no controversy could affect his status. He knows the art of putting across his view point and there are always people who support and differ with anybody’s views on a particular subject. In short, with all his qualities and power of conviction he remains a role model for a large number of people.
