Birender Singh Dhanoa

Description

  1. Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, VM, ADC is the 25th Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force.
  2. He assumed the post on 31 December 2016 after Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha retired.
  3. Singh was born in Gharuan village in SAS Nagar, Punjab.
  4. Air Marshal BS Dhanoa was commissioned in the IAF in June 1978 as a fighter pilot and has flown Kiran, MiG-21, Jaguar, MiG-29, Su-30 MKI among others with a clean fligh record.
  5. During the Kargil War, as the Commanding Officer of a front line ground attack fighter squadron, he led the IAF punch against Pakistan to evict the enemies from their Dug
  6. He was the mastermind in devising innovative methods of bombing in the night at altitudes never before attempted in the history of air warfare, during the kargil conflicts
  7. He holds the highest flying instructional category in the IAF and was handpicked to establish the ‘IAF Training Team’ abroad.
  8. He is a recipient of the Yudh Seva Medal, Vayusena Medal (both in 1999), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2015) and Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2016).
  9. An avid reader and writer of air power and joint operations, the senior IAF officer was appointed as Honorary ADC to the President of India on August 1 2015
