K.C. Singh
K.C. Singh, is an Indian Foreign Service 1974 batch officer, who retired as Secretary to the Government
of India. He had joined this service after obtaining a Master degree in English literature and a Bachelor
degree in Law. During his service career, he got a posting in Cairo, New York and Ankara and in India
he worked as Deputy Secretary to the President of India 1983-87. He was Ambassador to the United Arab
Emirates (1999-2003) and then to Iran (2003-05). S. K.C. Singh was not only a successful administrator, a
popular diplomat and a fair, hardworking and an honest officer, but also an accomplished writer. He has
written articles and also books relating to India’s foreign policy. He also writes occasion columns for the
outlook magazine as well as op-ed pieces for the new Indian Express. His love for Sikh religion becomes
visible from his articles. For example, in recent article in Tribune, he put up a thesis that the 21 Sikhs who
died at Saragarhi did not die merely because of their loyalty towards the British. Rather they were resisting
bigotry and radicalasion that lingers in the AF-Pak region. Thus, they must be treated as martyrs in defense
of India. K.C. Singh’s career achievements, he speeches and his articles expressing such like views to glorify
the Sikhs make him a role-model.
