Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib, Nanded
Description
Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib Abchalnagar Sahib Gurdwara is situated in Nanded. It is believed
to be the same place where the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, breathed his last. Maharaja Ranjit
Singh constructed a Gurdwara at the place in 1832, which is highly revered in the Sikh community. The
complex inside is called Sachkhand or the Realm of Truth and the room inside the Gurdwara, where it is
believed that Guru Gobind Singh breathed his last breath, is called
Angitha Sahib. Originally, the land for the Takht Sahib and other
Gurdwaras near around was allotted by Raja Chandu Lal, Dewan
of Hyderabad State. The construction was got done in 1832 by
Maharaja Ranjeet Singh. When the Sikh Ruler sent his troops to
help the Nizam, many Sikhs settled there and since then their
families have been living there and known as deccany Sikhs. A
good number of Guru’s relics like a Chakra, a broad sword, a
steel bow, a steel arrow, a gun, a Kirpan and some swords are on
display in the sanctum of the Takht known as Takht Sachkhand.
There are number of prominent Gurdwaras within vicinity of
50 kms. from the shrine which are associated with the events and
family members of Guru Gobind Singh. These are Gurdwara Hira
Ghat Sahib, Gurdwara Mata Sahib, Gurdwara Shikar Ghat Sahib and Gurdwara Baba Banda Bahadur Ghat,
where the Guru met Madho Das Bairagi, who was later on baptised by the Guru and named as Banda Singh
Bahadur. The Guru had given the command of Sikh forces to Banda Singh Bahadur who moved to Punjab
to lay the foundation of Sikh rule. There is one Gurdwara Maal Tekri Sahib which, the tradition associates
with Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Among other Gurdwara is a Bunga, the residence of Mai Bhago, which is a large
room within the compound of Gurdwara Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib, to the east of the central shrine.
Besides the Guru Granth Sahib, some old weapons, including large sized muskets and a mortar, and a
palanquin are on display in the room.
