His religious inclination became evident when he became member of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee 1995-2000. Later on in 2009 he became member of SGPC, Amritsar and he holds this position till today. Although he took interest in religious affairs during all these years, the transformation in his character and personality came when he became president of Gurdwara Singh Sabha Rajouri Garden in 2015. He became amritdhari and started devoting considerable time to hearing and understanding Gurbani. Despite opposition to many of his policies, he brought a number of changes in the structure and functioning of Gurdwara Sahib, Guru Nanak Public School and Guru Nanak Free Charitable Dispensary attached to the Gurdwara. One of the innovative steps taken by S. Harmanjit Singh is the addition of a new unit of mentally retarded children in the school. According to him it was his heart’s desires since long to do something for such children. As there was sufficient land available in the school, he started this special wing which is first of its kind in any sikh institution in Delhi. The arrangements made for the education of such children are excellent. The children are taken care of for all their needs like food, games and education. Whenever S. Harmanjit Singh visits that wing, the children feel so happy that they start embracing him and posing for photograph with him. It is mainly his love and dedication for these children and the cooperation which he is getting from other committee members particularly S. Bupinder Singh Bawa, (Bawa Masale Wale) the Sr. Vice President Gurdwara Rajouri Garden committee, that the number of children is increasing and the school is becoming popular day by day. Recently, when on completion of one year of this wing an additional block was added and inaugurated by S. Manjit Singh G.K., President of DSGMC, everybody appreciated him and his team for this noble task. This unique service to mankind along with other services make S. Harmanjit Singh a role model for others.
