Avtar Singh Bhogal, a business tycoon stationed at Ludhiana, India was born on 8th September 1953 at
Ludhiana. His grandfather S. Karam Singh Bhogal, a highly religious person, was known as father of cycle
industry in India. He was also a Sikh preacher and used to do Katha from Sri Guru Granth Sahib to guide the
people about Guru’s teachings. S. Avtar Singh’s father S. Mahinder Singh Bhogal, also a very religious person,
started working under his father’s guidance and made a historic lathe machine at the age of 16 years. He was
punished by the British Government for making this machine without taking their permission. However,
after the British left India, S. Mahinder Singh established ‘Bhogal Sons’ in 1948, which started a new era in
cycle and machine manufacturing businesses. When in 1952, the first automatic lathe machine was made
in Bhogal Sons Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri, Union Minister of Industry Govt. of India, visited the factory to
see that machine. S. Mahinder Singh raised the business in all respects and came to be called the Doyen
of Bicycle Industry. S. Avtar Singh Bhogal along with his brother S. Harinderpal Pal Bhogal (Technical
Partner) inherited this business and are running the same as per the guidelines and plans of their late father
S. Mohinder Singh. This family is one of the premier groups of India for manufacturing cycles and cycle
parts and developed auto parts which they are also exporting to advance countries of Europe USA, Canada
and Australia. Both the brothers are actively associated with various organizations connected with their
business. S. Avtar Singh is Vice President CICU (Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings),

the works done for the community, especially for the Ramgarhia segment of the community, make them a
role-model Gursikh family.
