Dr. Harbhajan Kaur


Dr. Harbhajan Kaur, born on 21st July 1955, is a distinguished scientist, environmentalist and a
social reformer. With her high qualification of Msc followed by an M.Phil and a doctorate she joined the
Department of Zoology & Environmental Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala as Lecturer in 1989 and
since then has been actively engaged in teaching and research activities of the department. She is presently
working as a professor in the department of Zoology & Environmental Sciences, Punjabi University Patiala.
She is a dedicated researcher in the fields of Cytogenetics and Limnology. She has furnished cytological
markers for more than 200 Indian species of Heteroptera. She described pollution status of Punjab rivers
and wetlands. She has supervised 8 M.Sc., 6 M.Phil. and 19 Ph.D. students and has published 7 articles, a
book and 125 research papers in national and international journals.

She is not only a role model teacher and a guide for the P.H.D. students, but also a social reformer, who
redresses the problems of women concerning sexual harassment at work places. She is the chair person of
the cell for the prevention of harassment to women at the work places. Her faith in the teachings of Sri Guru
Granth Sahib has invested her with excellent qualities of head and heart. She teaches those values and guides
the people to not to believe in rituals and superstitious. She was bestowed with Prof. J.S. DattaMunshi Gold
