He prepared a vision document
for Punjab 2012 on behalf of CIL and presented the same to CM Punjab on 05.05.2007. He occupied positions of Chairman, and member of State Council and National Council of CIL during the period of
2009 to 2013. It was his specific interest in Amritsar that he presented a vision paper to the Prime Minister
Dr. Manmohan Singh and also represented the city on the Divisional Planning Board for 8th Five Year Plan.
He continues to be the Vice President of Amritsar Small Scale Woolen Manufacturers Association. In 2010,
he accompanied the delegation with CM Punjab to Turkey, Egypt, Israel and U.A.E. to build Momentum for
business and research for ultimate development of Punjab. S. Gunbir Singh is a role model not only because
of his business interest and activities, but also for his social and spiritual concerns. The fact that he is a
member of Concentrative Review Group, National Planning Commission for empowerment of Minorities,
Financial Secretary, Khalsa College Charitable Society, Amritsar, Hon’ble General Secretary, Bhai Vir Singh
Niwas Asthan, Amritsar and Member Sri Guru Singh Sabha shows his active interest to promote the welfare
of Minorities, particularly the Sikhs. He is always active in any programme which is aimed at advancing
the cause of Sikh religion and its followers. He represented the community from India in 2014 for The
Gathering of Faith Leaders in Japan on Faith, Customs and Traditions for Sustainable Lifestyles under the
UN Charter for SDG’s 2015-30. Although, he is engaged in various welfare activities being the President
of Rotary Club, Amritsar Cantt. and Chairman of Dilbir Foundation (a Trust created by the family), his
interest in improving the environment appears as supreme. Whenever he prepared a vision plan, he focused
his attention on Environmental aspect. He is the Chairman of ECO Amritsar, an ECO Sikh US venture. He
had devised a Road Map for saving water of Punjab and devised PAANI (Prevention of Attrition to Assets
in Nature Initiative) lauded by Punjab Government in 2009. He had also led the movement regarding
Organic Langar Programme by celebrating Sikh Environment Day. He often writes Articles for Newspapers
and Journals and appears for interviews on various channels on the issues of spirituality and betterment of
environment. A widely travelled Gunbir Singh is really role model for his leadership qualities in business and
devotion to welfare activities with an accent on environment, academics, spirituality, legacy conservation
