Gurdwara at Zahidan, Baluchistan
Gurdwara at Zahidan, Baluchistan
According to historical sources when Guru Nanak was travelling through the Muslim world, he stayed at
one point of time outside of Baghdad, where he met a Sufi saint Sheikh Bahlool Dana and held a dialogue
with him. S. Sant Singh Maskeen has described the conversation between Guru Nanak and Sheikh Bahlool
in one of his discourses which is available on YouTube with caption ‘History of Guru Nanak Ji Gurdwara’. In
this audio recording, we can see a plaque inscription commemorating the meeting. Maskeen Ji had himself
visited this place when it was merely a platform with the said inscription on a stone. Later on a shrine to Guru
Nanak was built alongside Bahlool Dana’s tomb. In the chaos following the 2003 invasion of Iraq looters or
vandals stripped the monument of religious texts and a plaque commemorating the meeting. Although, a
lot of research is still needed to know the exact route and extent of Guru Nanak’s travels, the researches so
far show that Guru Nanak should have travelled from Mecca to Israel, Palestine, Sierra and Turkey before
reaching Baghdad.
