Gurdwaras at Sultan Pur Lodhi
The other important Historical Gurdwaras in Punjab include Gurdwaras at Sultan Pur
Some Prominent Gurdwaras and 34 Sikh Organizations of The World
Lodhi in Kapurthala District. It is this place where Guru Nanak’s
sister Bebe Nanki had settled after her marriage. Guru Nanak
was sent to this place to start some earning. He was employed
with Nawab Daulat Khan and worked at provision store belonging
to the Sultan. There is a famous story that Guru Nanak used to
count the articles up to thirteen which means Teran in Punjabi
and then went to repeating Teran-Teran implying that i am yours
(God’s). This place is marked by Gurdwara Hatt Sahib. There is
also situated a Gurdwara at the residential place of Bebe Nanki Ji.
However the main shrine is at Gurdwara Ber Sahib, where Guru
Nanak is believed to have meditated under a tree after coming
out of river Kali Bein (a river which was flowing that time near
this town). It may be mentioned here that although 550th Birth
Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji will be celebrated all over
the world, its main functions will be held at Sultan Pur Lodhi.
Punjab Government has announced a number of plans for the city including making it a smart city.
