Harleen Kaur
Harleen Kaur of England became a role-model when she won a silver medal in martial art championship
held at Malta. Even last year, she had represented her country and won a silver medal accordingly. Seventeen
years old Harleen is a school student, but in this young age she had made a name among the Asian Woman
of Achievement (AWA). Such women are awarded every year to celebrate the contribution made by them
both professionally and for their communities in any sphere like sport, culture, and public service. Although,
Harleen Kaur is a British by birth, she belongs to a Sikh family from Punjab having a sports background.
Her mother Kulwinder Kaur was a famous Kabbadi player and her grandfather S. Tara Singh Kotia was
also a martial arts person.
Harleen, herself a martial arts competitor is also now a trainer of Karate and Kick
Boxing. A 2nd Dan Black Belt in Karate, she represents the nation being part of WMKF England Team.
However, she is a role-model not because of her achievements in martial arts, but also because she has
competed in various tournaments those being Taekwondo Opens, coming away with many national titles.
Harleen, who is an ambassador for the Asian Sports Foundation is one of a few in her niche field not only an
international competitor in martial arts, but the WMKF British Champion in Kickboxing and UK All Styles
National Champion. Harleen is still a student at sixth form, a head girl, as well as being a competent athlete.
After completing her A-Levels she is hoping to continue into further education studying Sports Science.
