Harshdeep Kaur


Harshdeep Kaur, an Indian playback singer known for Sufi songs, was born on 16th December 1986
in Delhi in a Sikh family. Her father S. Savinder Singh has a business manufacturing musical instruments.
Thus, she developed interest in music right from her tender age. So, along with her education she learnt
music from different persons including Singh Brothers and George Pullinkla of Delhi Music Theatre. She
became famous when she started winning titles in T.V. Talent Show, particularly in September 2008 when
she completed in a program ‘Junoon – Kuch Kar Dikhane Ka’ on NDTV Imagine, she touched the height of
popularity by becoming ‘Sufi Ka Sultan’ with Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan as her mentor. She was declared
the Sufi Ki Sultana by Amitabh Bachchan who was the Chief Guest in the Grand Finale. The show was a
competition between three genres – Sufi, Folk and Bollywood. Singers from Inida and Pakistan participated
in the show. Kaur wore Sufi attire, especially while performing Sufi songs. Since then she has performed with
some of the leading music directors (including A R Rahman, Amit Strivedi, Pritam Chakroborty, VishalShekhar, Salim Suleiman) as well as on some notable Bollywood songs in the 21st century. These include
Katiya Karun from Rockstar, Heer from Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Bari Barsi from Band Baaja Baaraat, Kabira from
Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Ik Onkar from Rang De Basanti and many more. She had also featured in Coke
Studio (India) on MTV in all the three seasons. Season 1 – Hoo (Music recreated by Leslie Lewis) Season
2 – Nirmohiya (Music by Amit Trivedi) and Hey Ri (Music by Hitesh Sonik) Season 3 – Dinae Dinae with
Papon Season 4 – Teriya Tu Jaane (Amit Trivedi). In April 2013 she headlined the prestigious Southbank
Centre Music Festival in London, alongside Soul/Bollywood singer Ash King. In August 2013, she headlined
the prestigious Mosaic Festival held in Mississauga, Canada. In September 2013 she performed at the
London Mela in Gunnersbury Park. Her popularity in a short period has made her a role-model singer. The
role-model singer had married her best friend Mankeet Singh. We look forward to her great performances
and achievement in the coming years.
