Jarnail Singh, presently a politician of AAM AADMI PARTY, was a member of the Delhi Legislative
Assembly till recently. He was born in 1973 in Delhi. He obtained a Diploma in Journalism from the
Y.M.C.A. Institute for Media Studies and Information Technology and then started his career as a reporter
for AMAR UJALA. He then worked as a Correspondent with the Hindi language Daily Dainik Jagran for
more than ten (10) years. He joined AAM AADMI PARTY and contested general elections as an AAP
Candidate from West Delhi, but could not succeed. In 2015, when Delhi Assembly elections were held, he
contested and won from Rajouri Garden Constituency. He is playing an active role to strengthen the AAP
in Punjab for getting a victory in 2017 Punjab Assembly Elections.
Jarnail Singh has not only been a respected Journalist and a politician, but, is also an excellent human
being living like a true Gursikh. He has a wonderful knowledge of Gurbani and can speak on any religious
subject. As a speaker, he is very polite, soft spoken and uses a sweet and cultured language. He generally
very calm, but, the incident of Shoe throwing during a Press Conference of the Home Minister Shri P.
Chitambaram on 07.04.2009, may raise questions for his behavior. However, like all other Sikhs, he has been
feeling strongly the pain of deprivation of justice to the Riot victims of 1984, and it was an impulsive reaction
in this regard. He was a highly upset with the fact that the Congress had given four tickets to leaders who
were alleged instigators of the riots in 1984. He was feeling the pain that the CBI had cleared them. When
the Minister said to his question that CBI had not acted under Govt. pressure and it was upto the Court to
take a decision, he was not satisfied and expressed his protest by throwing Show at the stage. In any case,
being a Gursikh, he knew that such a behavior was not called for. Thus, he admitted, “I admit my method
was wrong, but the sentiment was right”. I do not wish that any journalist should behave in this manner”.
The feeling of pain for the panth, resentment against the delayed justice and then admitting the use of wrong
method – all these things present him as a lovable Sikh. His knowledge of Sikh religion, gurbani and his
way of living inspires all to look at him as a role model. He has recently fought election for Punjab Assembly
(2017). The results of which are awaited. His e-mail is jarnailsingh16@gmail.com.
