Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur


Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur, an educationist, social activist and a writer, based at Chandigarh, was born on 16th
October 1949. After completing her education with Master’s degrees in English and Punjabi (along with
M.Phil.) she taught in different Colleges of Punjab as lecturer in English. After a long teaching experience
of 33 years, she became Principal in Government Girls College, Ludhiana in March 1993. After that, she
remained Principal in different Colleges, namely Government College, Bahadurgarh, Government College
for Women, Ludhiana, and Gurmat College, Patiala. During all these years as Principal, she was known
for her knowledge, teaching ability and discipline. A number of awards and honours were bestowed upon
for her contribution in education field and for her publications.These awards included Dr. Radhakrishnan
award for Women in Education, on International women day, Desh Sewa Rattan Award by Shahid Memorial
Society, Ludhiana, and Virasat-2008 award by Punjab Cultural Promotional Council. Her important
publications are ‘Women Liberation through the Prism of Sikh Faith’, ‘Bateeh Sulakhni’, ‘Gyan Charag’, and
‘Sikhism in Brief’ (translation).

Some of her booklets have been published for free distribution. The same are
‘Role and Status of Women in Sikhism’, ‘Women Liberation Movement and Gurmat’, ‘Sri Guru Arjan Dev
Ji’, ‘Guru Tegh Bahadur’, ‘Badhshah Darvesh Guru Gobind Singh’, ‘Guru Panth and Guru Granth’ and ‘Sehje
Racheo Khalsa’. She has also translated some part of Vol. II of Kahan Singh Nabha’s Mahan Kosh in English.
In addition she has written a number of articles published in different journals. The role-model Principal
has also been actively associated with Sikh activities and events. She is the member of such prestigious
organizations like Chief Khalsa Diwan, Institute of Sikh Studies, Gurmat Prasar Sewa Society and World
Sikh Council. She remained the President of Institute of Sikh Studies for two years. Her interest in all such
activities with an active participation in Sikh affairs makes her a perfect role-model.
