Suneet Kaur
Description
Suneet Kaur is an enlightened Sikh young doctor, who was born on 19th May 1975. She holds a B.S.
in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a MD from Albany Medical College. She also has a
Masters in Health Science Research from Duke University. She is working as a Clinical Assistant Professor
at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. She works to provide care for the local indigent and
underserved population. In addition she developes and maintains responsibility for outpatient medicine
curriculum for the internal medicine residency program. In addition to her medical services, she is a gursikh
role model because of her strong background in community engagement and public service, specifically
her work at an orphanage near Chandigarh, Punjab while enrolled in the change across Borders program
through the Fellowship of Activists to Embrace Humanity (FATEH). She has great love for her religion and
is always engaged in activities aimed at propagating and promoting Sikh values, teachings and history. She is
a member of the Sikh Coalition’s Board since 2010 and actively associated with their activites. For example,
in 2016, when the Sikh Coalition organized a Sikh Art Exibittion featuring Sikh Americans, she played an
important role by being one of its sponsers. According to her, we must make concerted efforts to make the
people aware of our religion and identity so that we may live in countries like USA without any fear. In
her words “As a community, it is our collective responsibility to come together and support our brothers
and sisters. We all come from different backgrounds, and we all have unique experiences. It is critical that
we make an effort to understand and connect with one another. Only then can we systematically tackle
this ignorance, hatred and unimaginable violence”. In addition, she teaches children various aspects of the
Sikh religion, including kirtan and the Punjabi language, at her local Sunday school and volunteers at the
semiannual Health Fair held at Gurdwara Sahib Charlotte. Thus, Suneet, is an excellent doctor and a true
gursikh ever engaged in service of the community, a perfect role model indeed.
