Upkar Singh Pardesi

Description

Upkar Singh Pardesi is a well known Social activist and an Educationist based in Birmingham, U.K.
He has been supporting local communities in Birmingham and West Midlands for more than 30 years
and playing an active role in promoting several arts and faith based organizations. He was Dean and
Professor of Enterprise Development from 1996 to 2008 where he developed leadership qualities among the
students. He was also holding the chair meant for training and skill development of the work force, owners/
directors of small firms and organizations. In 2008, he was made Director of Corporate Social responsibility
at Birmingham City University where his responsibility was development and implimention of strategic
plan for the university. In 2010, he co-founded My Ed Ltd.,and became its C.E.O. The purpose of this
organization was to provide a range of educational services for students and institutions in U.K. and other
places. He was appointed officer of the British Empire (OBE) for services to higher education in 2006. In
2005 nd 2007, he was selected to be included in Asian Power 100 list, which recognizes 100 most influential
Asians in the U.K. He is a role model Educationist because of his wonderful contribution in this field. He
is also the Vice Chairman of the Board of Nishkam Civic Association and Nishkam School Trust. Nishkam
Centre and School Trust are part of Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha (one of the larger Sikh Gurdwars in
the U.K. based in Handsworth) with the mission of empowering individuals so that they help themselves
and others to build strong families and sustainable communities. NST manages primary and high schools
in Birmingham and Nishkam School in West London. Upkar Singh also serves as a trustee and a Chairman
of the Acadamic Board of Kyra, a Catholic Education and Training charity. This kind of spirit for service
makes him a true Sikh Role Model.
