When Malminderjit Singh was appointed as the Head of the Administration of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in February 2015, he became the youngest ever to Head SICCI (at the age of 36 years). He had graduated from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom with an Honours degree in Economics. In 2008, he completed a Master of Science degree in International Political Economy from the Rajaratnam School of International Studies at the Nanyang Technological University. After becoming a Research Associate at the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), National University of Singapore, he focused himself on research on Foreign and Economic policies of India, especially with respect to South-East Asia. Before joining the ISAS, he worked both public and private sector. He worked as an Assistant Director (Trade Division) at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, where he worked on Singapore’s Economic and Trade Relation within Asean with its Dialogue Partners. The young and the dynamic Sikh Head of SICCI has become a role-model because of his qualification and position. In addition to that, he is also a social activist engaged in many such activities. He is involved in grassroots activities with the Young PAP, having served as the Secretary-General of the Young People’s Action Group (for the United Kingdom) and also as an Editor of its newsletter, Singapura. What makes him a Sikh role-model is his active involvement in the Sikh community, having been associated with several community projects as well as having served on a few youth organizations and Gurdwara Committees. He is currently the President of Young Sikh Association (Singapore). He also conducts research on regionalism and multilateralism as well Sikh Studies. Malminderjit is a role-model for all such persons who want to promote research in Sikh studies with a view to get at the truth on various issues concerning the community.
