Jagdish Singh, a well known name in the sphere of teaching and Educational Administration in Punjab
was born on 04.10.1931. In addition to his Master’s qualification in education, he holds a certificate in
English language teaching, diploma in the teaching of special children and a degree in law with a diploma
in Tax Laws. He started teaching in the latter half of the fifties and since then he has devoted his life to
education. Right from the lower challises up to the level of M.Ed classes, he has taught thousands of students,
a large number of whom are new holding top positions in various fields of life. They include a good number
of IAS/IPS Offiers, Doctors, Engineers AND even S. Bhupinder Singh Huda, the former Chief Minister of
Haryana. He has been associated with Sant Singh Sukha Singh School right from the beginning and it is
because of his efforts that the said school has now become a group of educational institutions including a
Commerce College for Women of whihch S. Jagdish Singh was the Founder Director. In addition, he has
been instrumental in starting and promoting many other Institutions like Moderrn School, Mata Kaulan
Marg, The Mall, Amritsar S.S.S. S. College of Arts for Women, Maqbulpura Road, Amritsar, S.S.S.S. Modern
School, Jandiala and Taran Taran, Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Patti, Khalsa College Public School,
Amritsar and Bhai Gurdas Academy, Taran Taran Road, Amritsar. A widely travelled S. Jagdish Singh
has made all the Institutions well equipped with libraries, laboratories, playgrounds and latest IT facilities
including email, multimedia etc. It is becaue of his vast experience in the respective sphere that he has held
many high positions in the executive of Khalsa College, Amritsar and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar
of which he is a member of syndicate for the last 20 years. He has also positions in the Management ofPunjab
School Education Board, Mohali, Chief Khalsa Diwan, Amritsar and SGPC, Amritsar. Punjab Govt. also
gave hims assignments like member Text Book Board and Language Department. His expertise has been
utilized by making him a member of various committees by the said Authorities. Thus, whereas he was
Chairman of the Screening Committee to grant affiliation to schools of the Punjab state on behalf of PSEB,
SGPC made him an expert for the seletion of Teachers and Principals. The Chief Khalsa Diwas utilized his
services as the Founder Member to setup its chain of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public Schools.
Jagdish Singh has also contributed considerably to the Rotary movement in India, Health Care Projects
and propagation of Sikh Religion. In the Rotary, he has been Secretry and Chairman of the District Conference
and President of the Rotary Club, Amritsar from 1992-93. In respect of Health care as Chairman of Guru
Ram Dass Rotary Cancer Hospital, he established a hospital, which is meeting the needs of the patients from Punjab, Himachal and J&K with its latest equipments in radio and break therepy. His publications
include articles not only on Public Schools ad Educational reforms, but also on religion which include the
“SIKH HERITAGE” in three parts in English and Punjabi. He has always been a source of inspiration for
the students, Teachers, Principals and Administrtors. That is why many honours have been bestowed upon
him by the Punjab Education Departemnt, Rotary Institutions and SGPC which had given him an award of
Rs. 11000/- with a Robe of Honor for the excellent services rendered by him in the field of Education (long
back in 1993) . Kes Sambhal Parchar Sanstha honoured him as “Punjab Gaurav” in 2012 at Chandigarh. He
is undoubtedly, one of the best role model Educationists in the Country
