Gulkirat Kaur Panag, popularly known as Gul Panag, a well known actress, model, and former beauty queen, who competed in the Miss Universe pageant, was born on 3rd January 1979 at Chandigarh, India. As her father, Lt. Gen. H.S. Panag, being in the army, had to move to different places in India and Abroad because of his transfers, Gul Studied at different places at school level and completed her gradutation in Mathematics from Punjabi University, Patiala, and Master’s in Political Science from Punjab University, Chandigarh. As a student, Panag was interested in sports and public speaking. She won numerous state and national level debate competitions, including two gold medals at the Annual National Inter University Debate competition. She won Miss India title in 1999, and was crowned Miss Beautiful Smile at the same pageant. She participated in the Miss Universe 1999 pageant. Since then she has appeared in many advertisements, acted in many TV serials like Kashmeer and Vijay Joyti, compered TV programs like Khoobsurat and Kismey Kitna Hai Dum, acted in Hindi flims like Dhoop, Jurm, Dor and a Punjabi film Sikander (2013) and acted as a brand ambassador for Tata Sky, along with Aamir Khan. She was the Twitter Face for the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week held in 2009, to cover the happenings/proceedings on the micro-blogging site. She is a role model not merely because of her model and acting talents, but also because she is an active social worker and an excellent human being. She runs the Colonel Shamsher Singh Foundation, an NGO that works towards a variety of causes including gender equality, education and disaster management. She served on the advisory board of the Wockhardt Foundation. She also participated in the India against Corruption movement. She ran at the Delhi Half Marathon in November 2010. When Aam Aadmi Party made her their candidate in 2014 parlimentry election from Chandigarh, she did convessing like a gentle person without using any harsh language against her opponents. Althouh she lost the election, she has left an impression as what kind of politician should come forward. She inspires others for the welfare of all. She inspires best of the qualities like humility, generousity, honesty and integraty. She married on 13 March 2011. Her husband Rishi Attari, belonging to the famous Sikh family of Sham Singh Attariwala, was in the news when he had flown a jet airways plane to Brussels where he along with his crew was trapped when Bomb blasts ripped through the said Airport in March 2016. Thanks God that he reached back safely. The Couple continues to be role models in their respective fields.
