Jaswant Singh Jass


Jaswant Singh Jass is a well known name in the field of Punjabi Theatre and Films. He was born on
27.03.1962. It was in 1979 when he was graduating from Khalsa College, Amritsar that he joined the College
Theatre team and acted in a play under the direction of iconic play right Gursharan Singh Bhaji, staged at
the time of Youth Festival. In this play,” INNA DI AWAAJ” he had played the role of a Wazir. Since then,
he has been actively associated with participating in the stage plays at different places in India, Pakistan and
U.K. Hundred of these plays made him so popular that he was invited in 1985 to participate in T.V. Plays
also. Whereas, his stage plays include famous plays like Kudesan, Lohe Di Bhathi, Chandni Chowk ton
Sirhind Tak, Khalsa Mero Roop Hai Khaas and Guru Manyo Granth, he was a part of famous T.V. Serials
like Bhai Manna Singh, Man Jeete Jagjit and Dastan-E-Punjab. In addition, he has also acted in a number of
Tele Films, Feature Films and Documentaries. These include Hindi serial “Sarhad” and Hindi Feature Films
“Hawayan” and “Kaafila”. He has also appeared in Video albums along with many artists like Manmohan
Waris and Sukhshinder Shinda and popular T.V. programmes on Jalandhar T.V. like “Galan Te Geet” and
“Rang Punjabi”.
For his immense contribution to Punjabi Theatre and Films, he has won various honours and awards
including Punjabi Academy Second Best Actor Award (Faasle-1993), Shaheed Memorial Punjab Kala Ratan
Award (2005), and Guru Ramdass Sewa Society Kala Award (2008), Bhaji Gursharan Singh Rangmanch
Pratibadhta Award (2014). Various societies like Mohd. Rafi Memorial Society and Rotary Club, Amritsar
have also honoured him. Punjabi Film “Chothi Koont” in which he has acted has won an award in an
International Film Festival. His love for Sikh religion is evidenced by the very names of a number of plays
and films (like Anokhe Amar Shaheed Baba Deep Singh) in which he has acted. He is definitely a role model
Gursikh whose contribution to Punjabi Theatre will always be appreciated.
