Col. Karminder Singh

Col. Karminder Singh, a retired Army Officer, a social activist and a Philanthropist was born on 01.06.1945. His father Late S. Amar Singh had started a good number of Charitable Institutions during his life time. Thus, Karminder Singh, also having a bent of mind to do charitable works, took pre-mature retirement from the Army in 1992 and got himself involved in serving the humanity through the charitable institutions started by Late S. Amar Singh Ji. The main institutions were school for Deaf & Blind children, a Laprosy colony to house the lepers and Amar Singh camboj Charitable trust. Amar Ashram was started by this trust to help the people in solemnizing marriages on less expenditure and in some cases to organize the marriages of the poor people free of cost. Karminder Singh now spends most of his time in managing the affairs of all these institutions. He distributes free medicines to the poor in Govt. Hospital Patiala and has also provided Ambulance service free of cost (There are 3 Ambulance Vans). He sees to it that the deaf
and blind in the schools at Patiala are looked after in the best possible manner. Similar is the position in respect of the inhabitants of the Birdh Ashram in the village CHAURA, Patiala. Further, he organizes free Medical Check Up Camps and free Camps for Eye Operations at Amar Ashram, Patiala on the 8th day of each month. These efforts on his part have benefitted around 25000 patients and more than 3000 patients have been operated for their eyes and provided free lens. He is also continuing the Philantheropic acts of his father to help the widows, poor and old people financially and to grant scholarships to the needy students for their studies. Being a devout Sikh, he believes that service to the people is a meritorious act of Sikh religion. He is a role model who shows and inspires the way of Gursikh living which is focused upon SARBAT DA BHALA. The Role Model Gursikh living in Patiala has been appreciated and honored by various organizations. These honours include Bhagat Puran Singh Manav Sewa Samman which was given to him for his outstanding contribution towards helping the poor, sick blind and deaf persons of the society in 2015.
