Amrit and Ravindra Singh

The two sisters, Amrit and Ravindra Singh, popularly known as the Singh Twins, are internationally acclaimed British Indian Artist (Painters). At a very young age, they have become world famous for their unique genre of British art that combines traditional Indian miniature style with contemporary subject matter of modern day interest. They have presented and exhibited their work alongside the likes of Turner and Hockney and at institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, DC), The National Gallery of Modern Art (Delhi & Mumbai), The National Gallery (London), The Peabody Museum (Salem), and the Asian Art Museum (San Francisco. Their paintings are in public and private collections worldwide, including the Government Art Collections in U.K.. For their contribution in combining traditional with the modern and eastern with western art in the form of miniatures they have been honored time and again and are possessed of various awards. In 2002 they were appointed artists-in-residence of the Manchester Commonwealth Games and continue to be studied by academics and research students around the World. Both of them have been awarded an MBE each. They have been featured in various publications like National Portrait Gallery publication on portraiture, The Penguin History of Scotland and The Oxford Encyclopedia of Women in World History. In 2008 they became the first recipients of the newly established Liverpool Art Prize People’s Choice Award. Last year, they received an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts from the University of Chester. Their love for Sikh religion is reflected from many of their paintings. Some of these paintings were showcased in the exhibition which was launched this year in April at the Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives in Brampton, Canada, as part of Sikh Heritage Month. They are really wonderful role models of the artistic world.
