Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon

Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon is one of the most well known historians of Sikh history. He was born on 5th March 1943. After doing his M.A. History (he topped) in 1966, he completed his Ph.D. in 1974 on the subject impact of “Singh Sabha Movement” on the history of Punjab. He taught history in the Punjab University, Chandigarh and held many prestigious positions like member Punjab University Senate, Member Academic Council, Member Board of Studies in History and Chairman, in the Department of Evening Studies, Chandigarh. He has given a large number of publications, research papers as well as books. His famous books include ‘Punjab Da Santaap (1947 ton 2015 tak)’ in Punjabi ‘Truth about Punjab’, ‘SGPC White Paper’ (1996) and ‘India commits Suicide’. His publications not only give an in depth study of the historical period and context under reference, but also project the Sikh point of view. He feels that the Sikhs have never been given justice. It is also his view that there has been a constant attack on Sikh values and traditions with a view to weaken them. In one of his interviews, he warned against the hidden agenda of RSS, which was not in the interest of Sikhs. He has also reviewed good numbers of books and many of his reviews have appeared in Abstracts of Sikh Studies. As he has written so profusely and boldly Sikh history, he emerges as one of the role-model Sikh historians.
