Baljit Singh

Baljit Singh, a social activist, promoter of Punjabi language and practitoner of Sikhism, was born on 15th January 1968. He got his school education at Guru Harkrishan Public School, New Delhi and did his B.Sc. (Computer Science) from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University and MA (Sikh Studies), MA (Religious Studies) from Punjabi University, Patiala. Publication of books in Punjabi and English is not only his profession, but also a passion with an object of promoting Sikh heritage through the published books. His publication house known as ‘Sikh Foundation’ has earned a name for publishing quality books in English and Punjabi covering readers of all ages. A large number of books for children have been authored by Baljit Singh himself. These include ‘Ardas’, ‘Anand Karaj’, and ‘Turban’ that the Sikh prides. All these are multicoloured books, so that children may feel attracted to read and understand the issues in Sikh perspective. There are some books which enlighten the children about Sikh personalities.

The same include ‘Badshah Darvesh’ (on Tenth Master), The Sikh Generals (dealing with life of various Sikh Generals), Sardar Baghel Singh, and Baba Banda Singh Bahadar.There are certain activity books for children like Sikh Concepts, Travels of Guru Nanak and various other books for information regarding Gurus and Sikhs, Also a ‘Question bank of the Sikhs’ giving multiple-choice questions on Sikh history, faith, culture and philosophy. A number of books have been edited by Baljit Singh which include books on learning Punjabi language from English and Hindi and through cursive writing. His recent work includes a coffee-table book – The Pioneer of India’s Independence : Baba Banda Singh Bahadar, published by DSGMC. Baljit Singh, apart from being the author, editor and designer of a large numbers of books, is also associated with various social and religious activities. He has been a Press Secretary for ‘Sikh Vision’ a NGO working on the community issues, honorary editor of ‘Sikh League’, a fortnightly newspaper in Punjabi and English, and secretary of Khalsa Environment Project, a NGO which has been arranging workshops and seminars on eco friendly activities and presenting audiovideo aids and literature on environmental issues. Presently he is the Asstt. Secy. of The Sikh Forum and member of the Governing Council of Punjabi Academy (Govt. of Delhi). His overall contribution in the field of propagation of Sikh religion by publishing books makes him a role-model in this sphere. His wife is working as Astt. Registrar in a reputed university.
