Jagwinder Singh

When Jagwinder Singh appeared on a Jalandhar National T.V. Programme ‘Gallan te Geet’. His very personality in Sikhi sarup as an Amritdhari impressed everyone who watched the programme on that day. Jagwinder was born on 3rd April 1991 in a village at Patra, Distt. Patiala, Punjab, India in the house of S. Sukhdev Singh and Bibi Amarjeet Kaur an ordinary Sikh family. The first sight of their first child made the parent sad as the child did not have both his arms. However, the devout Sikh family considering it as the will of God, started paying special attention to this special child. They tried to admit him in some school, but no school was agreeing to take him. The parents then worked hard to make him used to do all the things with his feet. gradually, the child learnt the art of writing also with his feet. When, it was revealed to the school authorities, then he was admitted in a school nearby and he completed his school by passing +2 exam. During all these years Jagwinder has developed an interest in painting and cycling. When he started drawing lines with his feet, he was surprised to see the images arising out of those lines.His love for painting grew and became a passion motivating him to participate in school level competitions. Considering this love, he did a diploma in Art from Patra and started teaching the same to the willing students.
So far cycling is concerned, he became interested in learning cycle driving by seeing other children enjoying the cycle ride as he had to work very hard to paddle the cycle by handling the same without arms he became perfect in this art as well and started competing with others in cycle races. He has won a number of prizes in these two pursuits and he and his family members feel proud to display the photograph and the trophies and the medals won by Jagwinder. These include gold medals in National drawing competition, top 30 young achiever’s award by Hindustan Times, state para-cycling award and the first position award in cycling race held at Chandigarh. He has won positions in both these activities at district level as well as state level. He has been honoured by Akal International Students Federation and Fateh TV Channel with ‘Shan-e-Sikh Virasat’ award. The other authorities who have honoured him include Merut University, Vishwa Shanti Charitable Organisation and Chief Minister of Punjab S. Parkash Singh Badal. The vigour and zeal with which he motivates other is amazing. Although, this role-model has not yet got any help or job from the Government and he is earning his bread by doing private jobs of a drawing teacher, who has full faith in God that one day he will get some appropriate better job for his earning. As his family is a big family consisting of his four younger siblings (three sisters and one brother), and only source of income of the family is from a boutique, he is unable to study further. However, he is interested in further studies if he gets an opportunity to do so. Being an Amritdhari Sikh, he remains in Sikhi sarup although he is assisted in the care of hair and tying of turban by his family members. He is confident that he will be able to maintain his rehat maryada throughout his life. Jagwinder Singh Jagjit Singh Jagdish Singh Gill 500 Sikh 244 Role Models Guru Ji will help him for the same.
