Tim Singh Uppal

Tim Singh Uppal was born 14.11.1974 at New Westminister, British Columbia, Canada. He had his education in that Town and started his career as a Producer and host of a Radio Show on CKER in Edmonton in 1992. In 2004, he became a Residential Mortgage Manager at TD Canada Trust. Since 2000, he has been taking keen interest in various social and political activities. He is the founder and President of the South Edmonton Youth Group and has been a member of the Capital Health, Community, Health Council since 2001. For Several years Uppal was an active member of the Sherwood Pak Chamber of Commerce and the Sherwood Part Rotary Club. He was also a founding member of the Edmonton Police Community Advisory Council. He fought elections for becoming Member of Parliament in 2000 and 2004, but lost the same by very small margins (only by 134 votes in 2004). In 2008 Federal Election, he won the riding of Edmonton-Sherwood Park, becoming Member of Parliament for the Alberta riding.
In December 2008, he was appointed to the Standing Committee on Health and the Standing Committee on heritage. He was promoted to acting chair of the Health Committee in 2010. When he introduced his first private member’s bill regarding establishing a National Holocaust monument in Canada, he was supported by all and the bill was passed unanimously. In 2011, when he was appointed as Minister of State for Democratic Reforms, he became the first Turbaned Sikh Minister in the Canadian Cabinet (Harper Government). Holding this charge, he focused on the issue of overpopulated constituencies and re-distribution of Federal Riding Borders. In July 2013, he was allotted the Portfolio of Minister of State (Multiculturalism). Although, he is no more a Member of Parliament as he lost in 2015 election, he is still very popular in social and his political party circle. He is a devoted Sikh who takes keen interest in Sikh Affairs and activities in Canada. Widely travelled, S. Uppal is known for his helping attitude. He will always remain a role model for the Sikhs because of his being the first Turbaned Sikh Minister in the Canadian Cabinet and his continuing active association in Community affairs. He resides in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
