Jatinder Kaur, a veteran artist of Punjabi Theatre and films, was born on 9th April 1941. After doing
her graduation, she started her Theatre career as a free lance actress. During the last 50 years of her stage
career, she has acted in more than 150 plays and given around 500 performances in India as well as foreign
countries like USA, Canada, Australia, U.K. and Pakistan. Some of the famous plays in which she has acted
include ‘Muthi Bhar Chawal’, ‘Kanak Di Balli’, ‘Loha Kutt’ ‘Tarqalam’, ‘Faasle’, ‘Loona’, ‘Aadhe Adhure’,
‘Train to Pakisan’ and ‘Bhai Manna Singh’. She also gave a memorable performance in a play, which was
prepared by Kes Sambhal Parchar Sanstha, namely ‘Aasli Hero’. Even now she is actively associated with
Amritsar Natak Kala Kendar, Manch – Rangmanch, Amritsar and Naatghar, Amritsar. In addition to her
stage performances she has also been associated with films and T.V. serials. She has acted in many Punjabi
films which include ‘Sardar Ji’, ‘Kachche Dhage’, ‘Mauhol Thik Hai’, ‘Purza Purza Kat Mare’, ‘Jee Ayan Nu’
and ‘Asan Nu Maan Vatna Da’. The T.V. serials in which she has acted include ‘Supne Te Parchhawien’,
‘Gardhish’, ‘Daldal’ and ‘Lori’. She also participated in T.V. features, namely ‘Satraning’, ‘Raunak Mela’,
‘Hulle Hulare’ etc. She also won popularity for doing Comedy with a star performer Harbhajan Jabbal. It
is her comic talent which is best reflected in many comedy performances and audio video cassettes like
‘Kutkutarian’, ‘Ghuggi Chhoomantar’, ‘Vehle No. 1.’ and ‘Kamaal Ho Gya’. She is a role-model actress of the
Punjabi theatre as there is none else who has dedicated her full life to this literary and acting genre. During
this long association she has worked with renowned stage personalities like S. Gursharan Singh (Bhai
Manna Singh fame), Balraj Sahni (a renowned film actor), Jaspal Bhatti (the memorable comedian), Kewal
Dhaliwal, Gulshan Sachdeva, Jagdish Sachdeva and Gurpreet Ghuggi (a comedian and now an Aam Aadmi
Party leader). She has been honoured with various awards at different platforms. Whereas she has won Maa
Abhinetri Award, Kalpana Chawla Award, Nora Richard Award and Best T.V. Artist Award by Mohmaad
Rafi Memorial Society, Amritsar, she was also given Shiromani Award by Punjab Government, President
Award by Allahabad Natak Sangh and Mother of Punjabi Theatre Award by Manch Rangmanch, Amritsar.
She has gone the best actress award many times at many places. She also got Comedy Queen Award by Prof.
Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation. Last, but not the least Hundreds of Societies and Sahit Kala Clubs have
honoured her. She is really a wonderful role-model for her contribution to the Theatre world.
