Dr. Kulbir Singh Suri, a well known Punjabi writer and a scholar was born on 07.09.1945 at Preet Nagar, Amritsar, Punjab in the house of Smt. Raj Kaur and S. Nanak Singh (famous Punjabi Novelist and writer). He did his M.A. Punjabi and B.Ed followed by a P.hD. As he was fond of reading and writing, he started writing on different subjects. Some of his important books include Pramukh Khojan Te Khojkar, Gubbare ton Pulari Jahaj Tak and Baadbani Jahaj ton Motor Car Tak. All these books were aimed at providing scientific information in simple language for the children. In fact, S. Kulbir Singh’s best contribution in Punjabi Literature is in the form of short stories and novels for educating the children on spiritual values. These stories were published under the head, “Dadi Maa Dian Kahanian” in the columns of “Ajit, a popular Punjabi Newspaper” for continuosly eight years from 2004-2011. His famous story collection books are Daani Shezada (2007), Jaadu Di Soti (2007), Rajkumar Da Sapna (2010), Choran Nu Mor (2010), GoluMolu (2010), Chandi Di Chabi (2011), Jadoo De Gole (2013), Ghar Da Na Ghat Da (2013), Bal Lok Kahania (2013), Sustoo Mal (2013), Sach Da Palla (2014), Chitta Hans (2014), Sachai Di Jit (2014) & Doodh Dian Dharan, a Novel published in 2014 and novel Khatian Mithian Golian written in 2016.
S. Kulbir Singh Suri is a Role Model Story writer for children. In addition to his own writings, he has added to the Children literature some of the translations from other languages and countries. Whereas Dragon Tsunami published by National Book Trust India is the translation of Japneese Folktales, Thanda Goshat is a translation of stories written by Manto. He has also translated Krishan Chander’s Novel, “Ek Gadhe Di Attamkatha” in Punjabi. Further, he has edited,” Meri Maa” (Children Literature) and Kafian Bulleh Shah. He is associated as a member with various literary and cultural orgatnstions like Virsa Vihar, Amriter, Lok Likhari Sabha Amritsar and Punjabi Sahit Academy, Ludiana. He is the Treasurer of Gurbakhsh Singh Nanak Singh Foundation, Preet Nagar, Amritsar. While associating with all such literary organizations, his endeavour Dr. Inderjeet Singh Gogoani Dr. Kulbir Singh Suri 500 Sikh 259 Role Models has always been to promote book culture and motivating Children to start reading books rights from a young age. Widely travelled, Dr. Suri is also fond of music and he can sing and play on flute. For all his services, particularly to the children literature, he has been appreaciated & honoured at various platforms. His honours include an National award by Sahit Akademi, New Delhi for being the writer of Children literature (2014). This role model writer with his mission of promoting spiritual values and ethics among the children, lives at Amritsar with his wife Smt. Gurinder Kaur Suri, who has retired as a Professor from Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar. Both his daughters—Simer Suri and Dr. Madhur Suri are highly placed and settled abroad.
