Gurdwara Akal Ashram, Sohana

Among the Gurdwaras setup by Sikh preachers, mention may be made of the Gurdwara started by Bhai Jasbir Singh Ji Khalsa, Khanne wale. Inspired by Sant Baba Atar Singh Ji Mastuana Sahib Wale, Bhai Jasbir Singh dedicated his whole life in spreading the message of Gurus in the farm of Katha Kirtan. When he became popular and the number of devotees to hear him increased, he purchased a peaceful place in Sohana Village near Chandigarh in 1983 where the present Gurdwara has been built. When the Gurdwara building was completed in 1985 huge sangat started gathering in Gurmat Samagams, Kirtan Samagams and Simran Sadhna in Amrit Vela (small hours of the morning). Bhai Sahib was honoured as Nishkam Kirtania at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in April 1996. As he was a philanthropist also, he founded a trust named as Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Eye Hospital Charitable Trust which created Sri Guru Harkishan Sahib Charitable Hospital. After he left for heavenly aboard on October 14th, 2006, he was conferred with honour of Panth Ratan. Sri Guru Harkishan Sahib Eye Hospital Trust as created by Bhai Jasbir Singh Ji Khalsa has been rendering a nobel service since the inception of the eye hospital. The eye hospital was established in the year 1995 and with a passage of time has widened its activity and become a multi speciality hospital. This hospital is situated just 6 kms. away from Chandigarh right opposite to Gurdwara Gurshabad Parkash, Akal Ashram, Sohana. It is 128 bed facilities multi speciality hospital which includes private, semi private and emergency facilities. The successor of Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa is Bhai Davinder Singh Khalsa (9872606000) who is successfully continuing the tradition of Sewa and Simran. Many special occasions are celebrated at the Gurdwara including the Salana Samagam which is organized every year in the month of March and thousands of devotees attend this samagam coming from different parts of the country and abroad. There are many other Gurdwaras also which belong to the different sects, denominations/Sikh preachers etc. in different parts of the country as well as in foreign countries. For example in Delhi, the Gurdwara associated with Baba Virsa Singh was very popular when Baba ji was alive. He had developed a concept of creating a spiritual atmosphere on a vast piece of a farm house. Even now this Gurdwara known as Gobind Sadan (011-26802251) is visited by the followers of Babaji who consider him a highly pious person. Gobind Sadan was founded in 1967. Although, Baba Ji believed in Guru Nanak’s Philosophy of Kirat Karni (earnest living), Naam Japna (Meditation), and Vand Chakna (Sharing with others) and preached accordingly, there were many other things like rituals and methods which were not in conformity with Gurmat. Gobind Sadan concept was not only adopted in Delhi, but at many other places by his followers including in USA. There is one Gurdwara in Punjabi Bagh area of Delhi, situated at 27/41 Punjabi Bagh New Delhi which is known as Tikana Sahib. The present Sewapanthi head of this Gurdwara is Sant Amrit Pal Singh. This Gurdwara has become very popular because of its large scale celebrations on the New Year Night every year and Sant Samagams. Similarly, there is a Gurdwara in Alwar in Rajasthan which was started by Sant Singh Maskeen, who was renowned Katha Vachak and whose Katha (discourse on Gurbani) is still shown on one of the TV Channels and is heard by lakhs of devotees. This Alwar Gurdwara is also thronged by the people throughout the year and particularly on the occasion of annual celebration every year. For any information regarding this institution S.
