Haryana has many cities where Sikh population is quite substantial. Even in villages, there are a good number of Sikhs. That is why, the Sikhs are holding important posts and positions in Haryana including that of Ministers, IAS Officers and Business Tycoons. The districts which have the maximum Sikh population Gurdwara Manikarn Sahib Gurudwara Akal Ashram are Ambala, Kurkshetra, Karnal and Yamuna Nagar. So far Ambala and Kurkshetra are concerned, there are a large number of historical Gurdwaras. Thus, most of the sangat visit these Gurdwaras. There are, a few Gurdwaras which are managed by Singh Sabhas. For example, there is a Gurdwara Sri Satsang Sahib in the old town of Ambala. Coming to Karnal, in addition to the two historical Gurdwaras there, via, Sis Ganj and Manji Sahib, we have a number of Singh Sabha Gurdwaras also. Among the most notables, there is Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Model Town Karnal. This Gurdwara attracts considerable devotees who attend the daily programmes as well as the special programmes organized here. This Gurdwara also runs a school as well as a dispensary. This Gurdwara is known as Gurdwara Dera Kar Sewa which is spread over a big piece of land having a big langar hall and a hall for community services. This Gurdwara is under the control of Baba Sukha Singh (M.: 9416600955) who belongs to the Kar Sewa Group of Late Baba Harbans Singh Ji. A very famous Dera Gurdwara is there in Yamuna Nagar also. This is Sewa Panthi Dera Santpura Gurdwara situated near GNG College, Model Town, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana-135001.
Although, a lot of Punjabi population being settled in different residential colonies of the city, there are many Gurdwaras established in and around Yamuna Nagar, this Gurdwara attracts considerable attention because of the great service to the Sikh community rended by the Philanthropist and Saint Sant Pandit Nishchal Singh Ji. The Gurdwara is a famous landmark of the area. Sant Nishchal Singh Ji (1882-1978) was a great preacher of Sikhism. He used to take Jathas around the Sikh Takhts and other historical Gurdwaras with a view to spread the knowledge about the Gurus and Sikh history. He had studied Sanskrit and ancient scriptures for explaining the Sikh concepts in the right prospective of comparative religions. Pandit Sant Nishchal Singh’s most memorable contribution was in the field of education. He established several schools and colleges, outside the Punjab, which besides general education provide for the teaching of the Punjabi Language and Sikh religion. In addition to separate secondary schools, and colleges for boys and girls, other educational institutions founded by him included Guru Gobind Singh College, Patna Sahib, Khalsa School, Gauhati (Assam), Khalsa School, Ranchi (Bihar), and Khalsa School Gurdwara Bari Sarigat, Calcutta (West Bengal).
