In the state of Maharastra, there are a large number of non historical Gurdwaras. We will select the three prominent cities of Nagpur, Mumbai and Pune. The most popular and the oldest Gurdwara managed by Singh Sabha is situated at Kamptee road, 3kms north of Nagpur. It is oldest Gurdwara of the city. It is a magnificent marble-clad structure which is about 12000 sq.ft. of Langar asthan in the basement with most modern and hygienic kitchen. The main Diwan asthan is of about 14000 sq. ft. with an height of about 30 ft fully marbled and good acoustic system. The grand door of the Gurdwara is 30ft in height. Apart from 15 rooms for visitors, the upper storey of the Gurdwara also provides for living for Granthis and Sewadars. There is a history behind the existence of Gurdwara Singh Sabha. The original structure of the Gurdwara was built during 1915 by Sardar Budh Singh, a pious religious person settled at Nagpur in the year 1885. In the 1927, when some Sikh families migrated from Punjab and settle down in Nagpur, they constructed another Gurdwara in the ‘Punjabi Line’ area under the leadership of Nirmal Tej Singh Ji, who was a Railway Engineer. Around 1948 both the Gurdwaras were brought under a common management and in the year 1998it was renovated and expanded to become what it is today, by the name of ‘Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha’. Its contact number is +917122558501. There is one coloney located about five kilometres north from the city centre which is known as Guru Nanak Pura. After the partition of India during 1947-48, some affected Sikh people from Pakistan settled in different parts of Nagpur. With the effort rendered by Gyani Yuvraj Singh Ji, S. Ram Singh Ji Bhatia and S. Bhagwan Singh Ji, these people united together and settled at this place. As, the number of Sikh families increased in this coloney, they thought of constructing a Gurdwara. The Nagpur Improvement trust allotted a plot for them and a small prayer room named Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar was started in 1953. In 1956, the foundation stone of the present Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar was laid by S.Hukam Singh Ji, the then Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The Gurdwara houses a community hall and a Guru Nanak Charitable Dispensary, which are being used by the public without any discrimination of caste, creed and religion. The contact number of this Gurdwara is (0712) 2640704.
