Dr. JPS Bhatia
When we hear the scary facts of Drug addiction which has adversely affected the Punjab youth, we
look towards Doctors like Dr. JPS Bhatia who are making untiring efforts to provide detoxification, drug
addiction treatment to the affected persons with a view to rescue the Punjab youth from the disastrous effects
of alcohol and other drugs. Dr. Bhatia is running a de-addition center in Amritsar and has all the expertise
and facilities to provide Neuro-psychiatric treatment not only to the patients, but also to their attendants
and their associates by adopting all kinds of medicinal and spiritual methods, including counseling, yoga
and meditation. Dr. Bhatia was highly moved when he focused upon the Sharifpura area of Amritsar which
is dominated by the widows of affected drug addicts. He then developed a comprehensive center with
various stages of treatment and people in large number started moving towards him. In the first stage, seven
days intensive detoxification is done under the supervision of medical experts and then in the second stage
further treatment and counseling classes are given by him and his associates. It is wonderful to note that
many of his counselors now include even those persons who were earlier themselves worst affected addicts
(e.g. Tejinder Singh Walia). Thus, by doing a great service to the addicts, he is helping the state of Punjab to
free itself from the stigma of being called a ‘Nashian Di Dharti’. He is really a great role model in this noble
task.
