Bhai Davinder Singh

Bhai Davinder Singh, popularly known as Sohana Wale, is a renowned Gurbani Singer, Preacher and a Social Worker. He was born on 09.12.1955 at Khanna in Punjab. His parents Bhai Beant Singh ji and
Mata Charanjit Kaur Ji were devout Sikhs leading a Gursikh way of living. Thus, Bhai Sahib was brought
up in Gursikhi atmosphere and came into contact with pious people. After his graduation, he devoted
himself to Gurbani singing and doing service of the people. It was in 1985 that he came into contact with
Panth Rattan Bhai Jasbir Singh Ji Khanne Wale. He was highly inspired by him and rendered his services
in different capacities at Gurdwara Akal Ashram, Sohana which was founded by Jasbir Singh Ji in 1983.
On the first day of September, 1991, Bhai Davinder Singh Ji became the Head Granthi of this Gurdwara.
When Bhai Jasbir Singh Ji Khalsa started Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Charitable Eye Hospital in April
1995, Bhai Davinder Singh became actively associated with this project of service of providing excellent
Eye treatment to the needy people on nominal charges free of charge for those who could not afford.

Bhai
Jasbir Singh Ji Khalsa was highly impressed by the spirit of service of Bhai Davinder Singh Ji and when his
health started deteriorating, he decided to appoint him as his successor for all the activities. He announced
it on 14.12.2003 in the presence of the congregation and decorated him with a Dastar (Robe of Honour)
and a Kirpan (Small Sword). When Bhai Jasbir Singh Ji passed away on 14.10.2006, Bhai Davinder Singh
Ji took all the responsibilities of running the hospital and spreading the message of Sikh Religion through
Gurbani. He expanded the sphere of Gurbani singing by starting various periodical Deewan programmes
and giving Kirtan performance at different places in India and abroad. He also made sincere efforts to
make the Eye Hospital a Super Specialty Hospital and Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib College of Nursing, a high
class Institution. A number of new projects for the service of poor and needy people have also been started
for promoting educational and medical facilities. Hospitals have also been started in other cities namely
Khanna, Sirhind, Ludhiana and Ropar. Similarly, Gursikh Istri Sabhas and Baal Sabhas have also been
created at many places including Jammu, Jalandhar and Delhi. These Sabhas are propagating Gurbani by
giving training of Gurmat Sangeet to youngsters. A two year Gurmat course with Gurbani and Sikh History
knowledge has also been started through an Academy known as Bhai Veer Singh Academy. Bhai Davinder
Singh, following in the footsteps of his mentor, Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa is really a role model for the people
in general and Sikhs in particular.
