Khalsa Aid is a Sikh humanitarian organization registered in UK. It works for the welfare of the people anywhere in the world wherever there is some problem for them. Its mission statement is inspired by the words of Guru Gobind Singh “Recognize the whole human race as one”. This organization has its volunteers led by directors in different countries. S. Amarpreet Singh, a qualified commercial pilot, is its director in India. He is a dedicated leader and a hardworking volunteer himself. Whereas, he has worked for Khalsa Aid in other countries also, in India he always acted swiftly to help the people in difficulty wherever they were. For example, when there was a water crisis in Maharashtra S. Amarpreet Singh led his team to Latur to supply water to the draught affected people. Close to one lakh litres of water was being ferried on a daily basis and were being distributed among the poor in parched Latur, Nanded, Prabhani and other areas.
They were assisted in this noble task by Tank Lorry Owners’ Association, in coordination with the government, which had permitted them to do so. S. Gurmeet Singh the head of Tank Lorry Owners Association had informed that they were bearing a cost of Rs 1.25 lakh daily to run the 10 vehicles ferrying water approximately daily in Nanded and Prabhani. Further, when after the Indian government’s surgical strikes along the Line of Control, the villagers in nearby villages were asked to vacate their houses, Amarpreet Singh again led his team to help them. He was accompanied by three more men from Patiala. They were soon joined by more from Jalandhar, Chandigarh and Amritsar. The group of 15 were volunteers with the international Sikh humanitarian group, ‘Khalsa Aid’. While the Punjab government had made arrangements for people leaving border villages at gurudwaras and schools outside the 10 km boundary mandated by the army, most villagers could’nt make it that far. “Obviously, they wanted to stay as close to their homes as possible, because they had to go back every day to tend to their fields,” Amarpreet Singh oversaw the steps to help such people. The first step was to serve food to the hungry persons, then to find comfortable shelter for them where they could stay for the period when they were away from their homes. Amarpreet’s team did all these things and also provided transport to them. Such like humanitariain Sikh inspires other for serving the humanity and becomes a real role model.
