Amolak Singh

Amolak Singh, a renowned Sikh artist was born on 2 October 1950 at Amritsar. After his school education in Guru Ram Das High School in Amritsar, the family shifted to Delhi, where during his college days, he cultivated his hobby in paining. He participated in various competition and worked with eminent artists like Prithvi Soni and Mahesh Kumar Sehgal. Some of his patrons like S.M. Pandit, Patel Sardar, Tilak Sahib etc. motivated him to take work of painting in the movies. Thus, he spents nearly four years in bollywood where he got an opportunity to paint in various films like Dil ka Raja, Raja Ram, Samaj Ko Badal Dalo, Dulhan Ek Raat Ki etc. When he got married in 1974, he came back to Delhi. After getting inspired by S. Sobha Singh, Amolak Singh started his own studio in Delhi and devoted himself to make Sikh historical paintings. Many of his paintings were used in calendars by Punjab & Sind Bank, PNB Finance and Bank of Punjab. By the time he became so prominent in Sikh circles that he was entrusted with the work of prominent Sikh Museum. When Principal Satbir Singh, a renowned Sikh author brought him to Amritsar in 1980 he was appointed Curator Artist in the Central Sikh Museum of Harmandar Sahib. He was the third person to be appointed to this post previously occupied by likes of Kirpal Singh artist and Master Gurdit Singh artist. He worked there for 14 years and improved the Museum. This museum has around 100 of his paintings displayed. He also improved Baba Baghel Singh Museum within three years with new paintings. The year 2001 saw him working for Bhai Mati Das Museum at Chandani Chowk in Delhi, Where he also made effort in the building plan of the museum. His efforts paid well and the result was the most wonderful museum in the Sikh history. He had been honoured by different organizations and individuals for his work. His works used to be published in daily newspapers on a regular basis.
