Arvinder Singh Lovely

Arvinder Singh Lovely, an Indian Politician belonging to Indian National Congress, was born on 11.12.1968 in the house of S. Balvinder Singh at Ranjeetgarh, Ludhiana, Punjab. However, he was mainly brought up and educated in Delhi. He perused his graduation from SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi. Political Science, being his main subject, he took keen interest in Political activities right from his College days. He was elected to the Students Union of the College and after that when he joined Indian National Congress as General Secretary, Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress 1990, followed by the General Secretary of the National Student Union of India (1992-1996). Although, he was elected to the Delhi Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1998, when he was the youngest MLA, he got a berth in the Ministry in 2003. The two important things regarding him are that right from 1998 till 2013; he fought 4 times from Gandhi Nagar Constituency and never lost an election. Secondly, as a Minister in the Cabinet, he held various departments like education, tourism, languages and Gurdwara Elections and administration. Whereas, as Education Minister, he brought computerization in the schools in Delhi, as Minister of Tourism, he took several initiative to make Delhi a Tourist Hub such as organizing round the year weekend festivals like Qutab Festival, Bhakti Festival, Ananya Festival, Sharad Utsav, Garden Tourism Festival and Mango Festival. When in 2015, Congress lost elections, he was made the Delhi Congress Chief for sometime. As a Sikh, he always took keen interest in Sikh affairs and projected himself with the best of Gursikh qualities of humility, compassion and a helping attitude. No wonder, he was honored with Legislature Award in 2000 for his excellent Track record as MLA. As he is keeping an image of a fair and honest politician, it adds to his positive points to make him a role model.
