His name was Baba Nand Singh Ji. He was born in 1870 in Village Sherpura, Tehsil Jagraon, Dist. Ludhiana. From his very childhood, he was dedicated to prolonged meditations and holy service. He established this centre at Jagraon which came to be known as Gurdwara Nanaksar near Village Karera in Jagraon. He preached a life on the basis of the teachings of Sikhi. By the time he left for his heavenly aboard in 1943, the devotees following him had swelled to such big number that the Langar was served at this Gurdwara 24 hrs a day. His successor Baba Isher Singh Ji expanded the sect by laying the foundation of the Nanaksar Thath and the Gurdwaras in this name were made in different states. Babaji himself visited several places and baptised the Sikhs. When his fame spread beyond the frontiers of India Nanaksar Thath Gurdwaras were constructed in many countries. Baba Isher Singh Ji’s mission was to propagate Bani (Daily Prayers) and Bana (Becoming an Amritdhari Sikh). As a result of his mission, presently there is a hardly any important city in the world where Sikhs are living, where there is no Gurdwara of Nanaksar sect. The headquarter of this sect, the original Gurdwara at Nanaksar is visited by lakhs of people from India and abroad. Apart from Maryada, Kirtan Programmes, Spiritual discourses and celebration of Gurpurabs, certain days are celebrated as anniversaries of the spiritual masters who carried on this tradition right from Baba Nand Singh Ji, Baba Isher Singh & Baba Sadhu Singh Ji and so on. Presently, there being a large number of Gurdwaras under this name “Nanaksar”, there are different heads and different places in India as well as foreign counties However, the principal place at Jagraon is still venerated and visited by all the followers of this sect.
