Balpreet Kaur

Description

Balpreet Kaur is the name of that brave Amritdhari Sikh girl, whose photo was taken clandestinely when she was waiting in the queue and then that photo was posted online so that people could ridicule her face having hair and her head cover turban making her identity different from other females. Balpreet, an ohio state university student, when came to know about this she showed a grace and maturity and wrote in her defense in the following words “I’m not embarrassed or even humiliated by the attention [negative and positive] that this picture is getting because, it’s who I am,” she wrote. “Yes, I’m a baptized Sikh woman with facial hair. Yes, I realize that my gender is often confused and I look different than most women. However, baptized Sikhs believe in the sacredness of this body – it is a gift that has been given to us by the Divine Being [which is genderless, actually] and, must keep it intact as a submission to the divine will.” Kaur continued on to explain why she ignores societal views of physical beauty in favor of action and inner virtue.
“I hope this explains everything a bit more, and I apologize for causing such confusion and uttering anything that hurt anyone,” She concluded. When Balpreet wrote a detailed write up explaining her religion and showing the importance of inner virtue over outer look, the whole scene changed and people started giving best comments in her favor. The overwhelming response from the people appreciating her and the Sikh religion made the wrong doer feel compunction and apologies not only on the social media, but also in person. He further wrote “I’ve read more about the Sikh faith and it was actually really interesting. It makes a whole lot of sense to work on having a legacy and not worrying about what you look like. I made that post for stupid internet points and I was ignorant.” This is the way baptized Sikh girl should react and explain her position and about her religion to the world. She is really a role model for all the Sikh girls in the world.
