Bhai Davinder Singh Sodhi

Bhai Davinder Singh Sodhi is a renowned Gurbani singer stationed at Ludhiana. He was born on 05.07.1965 in Village Bilga, Distt. Jalandhar in the house of S. Sohan Singh and Mata Gurdeep Kaur. As Bhai Sodhi Ji had interest in singing Gurbani right from his childhood, he got associated with Nanaksar Saints Baba Nand Singh Ji and Baba Ishar Singh Ji and started his training as a Tabla Player. He played Tabla with many well known ragis like Bhai Bakshish Singh and Bhai Iqbal Singh Sabar. In 1985, he formed his own group and at a very young age became popular because of his unique voice and style of singing. In a very short period, hundreds of LP records, CDs and VCDs in his voice started circulating among the devotees. Many T.V. Channels broadcast his programmes and a number of his recordings started becoming available on YOU TUBE. His popularity in the congregations and on Media was not only because of his melodious voice and the style of singing, but also because of his living like a Gursikh. His humility, sweet nature and helping attitude made him popular. His contribution for propogation and promotion of Sikhism is not limited to his Gurbani singing, but is also in the form of multifarious, social and religious activities. The first notable activity which needs a mention is a programme, “BHALO BHALO RE KIRTANIA”, a Gurbani Kirtan Competition that was telecast on MH One Channel. This competition was the brain child of Sodhi Ji, who had not only devised, organized but also judged the programme. This programme had become so popular that more than 7500 youngsters participated and it was telecast four times a week. As the programme became popular giving a rise in the viewership, many prominent Sikh preachers including the Jathedars of Takhats and Gurbani singers became associated. Apart from this T.V. programme, Bhai Sahib has initiated many other programmes also which aimed at bringing the people nearer to Gurbani and Gurmat. For example, in one T.V. prgoramme, Bhai Sahib introduced such things which were related to the Gurus and their period and were lying in the possession of certain families. These things called Nishanis presented on the Channel can still be viewed on YOU TUBE. The interviews of some great personalities among the Sikhs as conducted by Bhai Sahib on FATEH Channel through another popular programme known as ‘Ai Mil Gurusikh, Ai Mil’ have made Bhai Sahib a notable personality of the Media World. One programme which is held on every Sangrand night at Village Bilga (Bhai Sahib’s birth place) which has a historical importance in the sense that Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s Barat (Wedding group) had halted at this place, is also a great contribution of Bhai Davinder Singh Sodhi. There is no end to the programmes started, organized and carried on by Bhai Davinder Singh Sodhi for the propagation of Sikh religion and Gurmat way of living. Thus, he has emerged a great role model in the sphere of Sikhi Dharam Parchar. He has been honoured for his efforts on different platforms by various organizations. It is Bhai Sahib’s humility that he gives credit to all his achievements and efforts to the blessings of Sadh Sangat and grace of Guru Sahibans and the Almighty. But, he will always be remembered as a Trend Setter for his initiatives in this regard.
