Bhai Ghaniya Ji Mission Society (Regd.)

As Bhai Ghaniya Ji is the best role model of doing sewa in Sikh history, his name has become synonymous with a person who does service as a true gursikh. That is why, a numbr of societies in his name are existing in different parts of the world. All these organizations are doing service to humanity in different ways. To illustrate the scope and method of functioning of such organization, we may refer to a society named as Bhai Ghaniya Ji Mission Society. This society is functioning in Amritsar from their registered address at 62, East Mohan Nagar, Amritsar. This society was established on 12th May 1997 with the sole aim of extending selfless service to the poor, needy and downtrodden patients, some of whom, would unfortunately die, being unable to bear the cost of medicines and treatment. Initially, the founder of this society, Bhai Joginder Singh Talwara started with 11 members and monthly collection of Rs. 25,000/- was collected to help the poor and needy patients. But now with the unstinted co-operation of the generous donors (presently about 3200 in nos.), the yearly collection has risen to Rs. 70 Lac with a Board consisting of 4 patrons, 2 Associated Members, 61 committee Members and 20 Advisory members to control the functioning of the society. The members of the society are deputed to sit in the Govt. and Charitable Hospitals, T.B. Hospital, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Sri Guru Ramdas Hospital (Gurudwara Shaheed & Vallah), Mata Kaulan Ji Mission Hospital, Civil Hospital, Amritsar etc. to help the poor and needy patients. Besides that, the society is also running Bhai Ghaniya Ji Sajan Saraswati Mission Hospital (OPD). The major cost of construction of Hospital was donated by Sajan Saraswati Foundation Trust U.K. through S. Gurmukh Singh Baura & Dr. Gurmeet Kaur Baura Trustees of Trust where about 250 patients daily take Medical advantage, S. Narinder Singh Ji Memorial, Bhai Ghaniya Ji Homeopathic Dispensary, S. Gian Singh Chawla Memorial Bhai Ghaniya Ji Physiotherapy Centre, S. Amarjit Singh Chawla of Australia, our Associated Member of Society, donated the entire amount in memory of his father S. Gian Singh Ji Chawla. Bhai Ghaniya Ji Acupressure Centre is also working at 62, East Mohan Nagar, Amritsar. Apart from this, Ms. Daphne May of U.K. has donated the entire amount for the construction of adjoining Hospital building & Ceragem Thermal Massager centre under her name.

With the generous help and kind co-operation of Sajan Saraswati Trust U.K., the society has one Ambulance-Cum-Dead Body Van, One Mobile Dispensary Van which has been working since 17-12-2007 is fitted with the modern equipments i.e. ECG, Sugar Testing device etc. Six villages are being covered twice a week and on meagre amount of Rs. 5, three days medicine is being given to the patients. Rs. 15 is charged for ECG and Rs. 15 are charged for Sugar Testing etc. and after every two months, the van is rotated to the other villages.

The society has started many other projects like an allopathic dispensary at Maqbool Pura, Mohan Nagar (Homeopathic Dispensary), A Physiotherapy centre at BGSSM Hospital, Sujok & Acupressure Centre, Bhai Surat Singh (Puran Ji) Cancer Care unit, S. Basant Singh Hanspal Eye care Centre, Blood and Eye donation council, An Ambulance-cum-dead body van and A Mobile Dispensary Van fully equipped with laboratory. All these projects have been started in the poor colonies. For example, one Dispensary was started in Maqbool Pura area, a poor and backward locality of the city on 13-12-2008, sponsored by S. Trilochan Singh Ji Chawla of Raipur (Chhattisgarh), about 100 patients are being attended daily. Every year, the society also organizes 2-3 Medical Camps in different villages, to help the needy and poor patients. The Eye Camps are also organised every year and free Eye Operation facilities are provided to the patients with the help of Thekedar Bishan Singh Hanspal Public Charitable Trust, Amritsar. It also provides financial help upto Rs. 10,000/- (Ten Thousand) to Kidney patients, by-pass surgery, Cancer patient, Operations etc. About 5 to 10 patients are being benefits every year.
